Representative Players

Riccarton Korfball Club is proud to have many Canterbury and New Zealand Senior and Under 23 representative players among its members.

Well done to our RKC members who represented Canterbury at the latest National Provincial Champiosnships in Wellington on September 20-21.

From Korfball Canterbury newsletter:

CANTERBURY Reclaim the NPC Trophy

CONGRATULATIONS to the Canterbury 'A' team and their coach Nick Muir on regaining the KNZ NPC Trophy.

Over the weekend the team successfully regained the NPC Trophy with true passion, determination and focus. With only round robin play to determine which region would be crowned NPC Champions, the Canterbury 'A' team's one and only priority was WIN every game!

With no male reserves the guys (Rueben Fitzgerald, Adam Klomp, Bevan Lawson and Simon Cooper) had to dig deep on their energy reserves over the weekend. Nick Muir (Player/Coach) stepped in on Sunday to help the guys out before the final game.

Loralee Pope, Mia Lawrence, Josie O'Reilly, Mandy Bull and Claudette Smith were all inspirational in their commitment and drive and definitely put the heat on their opposition, dominating around the post and setting the feed position. They also had to dig deep, as the squad only had one female substitution for the whole tournament.

The team only has seven weeks in which to refocus and prepare for their first defence at the third and final NPC tournament of the year. The tournament will be held in Auckland on November 8th & 9th.

Canterbury Under 19's place well at NPC

'CONGRATULATIONS' to the Canterbury Under 19 team as well. They put in a fine performance over the weekend placing 4th overall with 3 wins from 5 games.

The most exciting and thrilling game was their 16 to 15 win over Auckland B. It was an intense game with both teams trading goals in the final stages. The final seconds were nail biting ones with possession being gained and lost and Auckland B looking to score that equalising shot. The team held on to win by 1 at the final whistle.

With the coaching of Rob Smith (assisted by Simon Cooper) the team have come a long way since they came together and are showing great promise for the near and distant future.

Well done to both teams and thank you to all those who helped get the two squads to Wellington and provided support while there.
